a skin test is essential before your first hair colour appointment at stone hairdressing salons in Kent

At stone hairdressing salons in Canterbury and King’s Hill we can only offer hair colouring to men and women over the age of 16. You must come in for a quick skin test at least 48 hours prior to your first colour appointment to test for allergies to the colour range we use. first time hair colour – which hair colour should I choose?

There are many reasons why people decide to colour their hair, whether you’re fed up with your natural hair colour, want to cover grey hairs or want a bold hair colour makeover. We recommend that you book in for a complimentary hair colour consultation with a stone colour expert first so we can help you find the perfect hair colour for you based on your needs.

natural-looking hair colouring – balayage and ombre hair

If you would rather have a more natural-looking hair colour, you should ask your stone colour expert for a balayage colouring service. Balayage is a technique where colour is hand-painted onto certain sections of the hair, your roots are “stretched” out, with a brighter colour towards the ends. It is the most popular hair colouring technique around!

boost your natural hair colour or hide grey hair

If you love your natural hair colour, but want it to look more vibrant and glossy, or to blend any pesky grey hairs, you could consider adding in some highlights or lowlights. With several highly trained colour technicians in our salon, we have the expertise can find a shade or multiple shades that will compliment your natural hair colour and blend away greys without an unnatural look.

bold, bright hair colours

Bright hair colours are less for punk teens and more for anyone who wants to turn heads these days! If you are new to hair colour and want to stand out from the crowd, why not go all out with a bright hair colour? Multi-coloured shades including bright pinks, smoky blues, lovely lilacs and shimmering silvers, can be used alone to make a statement or mixed to create a unique, colourful hairstyle!

should I choose a permanent or a temporary hair colour?

temporary hair colour – Many people find it less intimidating to use a temporary hair colour for their first time. This colour will wash out after a few shampoos.

semi-permanent hair colour – Semi-permanent hair colour will fade wash out later than temporary hair colour, it is ideal for a colour boost or to hide a few grey hairs.

permanent hair colour – Permanent hair dye works by lifting the cuticles along the hair shaft and depositing the colour deep within each hair strand, hair can be lightened or darkened with permanent hair colour. Your roots will need re-touching every six to eight weeks.

caring for your newly coloured hair

Now that you’ve had your hair coloured for the first time, you’ll want to keep it looking vibrant and healthy. We would always suggest an in-salon treatment during the colour process. Ask your stone hairdressing stylist about the best hair treatment products we provide.

If your hair has been lightened, we highly recommend using a silver shampoo to neutralise brassiness and keeping your blonde hair looking vibrant and glossy. For darker hair colours we can recommend the perfect professional hair care products for your chosen hair colour, type and texture.
